Yellowstone National Park Day 12
To all you folks wondering where in the USA we are,
Today is Monday and we traveled from Grand Teton National Park to West Yellowstone and then spent a half day in Yellowstone National Park. Bessie the RV worked really hard going up over the continental divide and through the Teton Range. I can’t imagine traveling in a covered wagon out west. There are some huge mountain ranges to go over.
We parked the RV at a campground in West Yellowstone, Montana. We then drove the lower loop of Yellowstone and saw Old Faithful erupt and many other geysers and hot springs gurgling and boiling. Prismatic Hot Spring was amazing to see and we could see the rainbow of colors in the water due to different kinds of bacteria or algae. We even heard a story about a bison stumbling into the Prismatic Spring in late June that met its demise. Sad story but nothing the park rangers could do to save the animal in the boiling spring. It is pretty wild to see all these various boiling liquids bubbling and steaming out of the ground. No walking off the boardwalk or we might not be coming back from our trip-we would have met our demise in the scalding toxic water! The sounds, sulfur smells and sights of the many thermals were very interesting knowing we were also on top of a huge volcanic crater known as Yellowstone National Park. But no worries it has erupted for 600,000 + years. I think we will escape even though it is one of the most active thermal activity sights on planet Earth!
We saw deer, bison and elk at Yellowstone. The elk were right next to the road so we got a few good shots and one even crossed right behind us. We pushed the daylight limit to get back to the campground for a late supper. A good day had by all .
Trying to keep it between the ditches! We all have confidence in our driver!
