Badlands Day 8

Hi All,

Driving about 480 miles to the Badlands of South Dakota. Russ did a great job driving the house bus all that way and no problems with the possessed windshield shade today!

We had to stop at the World’s only Corn Palace in the middle of nowhere South Dakota! There are a bunch of murals made of corn and other natural grasses on the side of the building and they are quite intricate. The mural change each year and they take about 6 months to create. The local farmers grow the different color corns to create the murals. And of course, we had to buy some popcorn! Check it out!

Made it to our campsite and took off to see the badlands in the late afternoon. Drove the 39 mile road through the Badlands to see the sights and learn why the terrain is called the Badlands. The pictures don’t show the vastness of the wall of Badlands.

We saw some wildlife with the pinnacle being a bison close to the road. We also saw antelope, a coyote, deer, and a whole town of prairie dogs. Oh and how could I forget the brontosaurus! And by surprise we met 2 Buffalo Bills and Syracuse fans at the badlands from Rochester and Hilton, NY! Small world!

Other interesting sights along the way-world’s largest tractor tire stack and jackalope, a gorilla playing the piano and a few guys thinking they might look good as the next carvings on the mount! We also visited the famous Wall Drug store which is a giant everything store or as Hiltonians might remember Ben Franklin on a massive size. No need for Walmart or Amazon when you live close to Wall Drug.

We ended our evening with dinner at the Badlands Bar for some bison burgers, steak tips and cowboy slop!

I also found this cute cowboy that my son-in-laws might be ok with to me hanging out with! They surely didn’t like Sasquatch! Any better?

Catch you down the road!

Carol, Dave, Brenda and Russ
