Drive to Grand Tetons National Park Day 10
Saturday:
Well we drove over 500 miles today, July 19th from South Dakota across Wyoming and wow did we see some varying geography and terrain. We traveled through the Shoshone National Forest and over the continental Divide at 9858 feet above sea level! We saw tons of sage bush, dry areas, lush green fields rock spires and mountains. Russ did a great job navigating through the forest and winding roads with the giant RV towing a Jeep. Check out the pictures of what we saw! We found our RV park in Jackson and plan to stay there for 2 nights because we will visit the Tetons for the day tomorrow.
We took a photo at the elk antler arch! Every year thousands of elk now come to the elk refuge in Jackson Hole to survive the winter. Many years ago, George Eastman from Eastman Kodak had a hand in giving a guide a camera to document the problem of the starving and dying elk in Jackson Hole. The man then shared this with the media and secured funds to help feed the elk and create the elk refuge. The refuge has now supported the herd for about 100 years. The antler arch was made from the antlers shed by the elk at the Elk Refuge.
